Surprise Visitors at the Bridge

Good morning,

Shorter check-in this week – Yesterday I was at the church and running through the sermon for this week when all of a sudden I heard the sound of feet running around.  Typically if people stop by the church they let me know they are there, so this seemed unusual.  I walked around and called out to see who was there but didn’t find anybody.  I figured that I was hearing things so I got back to my sermon.

Shortly after I started back up I heard the footsteps again, but this time they were coming from just outside the side door in the sanctuary.  I am really confused at this point, so I started looking out the windows to see who was at the church.  I couldn’t see anyone walking around outside, and there weren’t any cars in the parking lots.  I started to get a little concerned, but decided to get back to work.

A few minutes later I heard the footsteps and noises again, only this time it sounded like a dozen kids were running around the church.  I once again checked all the doors and windows and called out to whoever was there.  Once again the footsteps stopped.  I have to be honest…I was well past “concerned” at this point.

I decided to sit in my office and wait.  Sure enough, the sound of a dozen kids running around the church returned.  I am convinced that someone is messing with me.  I grab my wallet, keys and phone and walk out of the church (my plan was to jump in our van and get out of there if I needed to).  I go outside and yell at whoever is there…

…and that is when I saw a flock of at least 10 turkey vultures walking around on the church roof.

I have no great theological point here, just thought you’d like a laugh this week!

Here’s what’s happening:

  1. Holy Week Prayer Vigil begins tomorrow night at 7 pm. If you would still like a slot let me know.
  2. Good Friday Service – 7 pm on 4/7.  This is a service of reflection and we will end with a time of communion before the cross.
  3. Easter Morning Sunrise Service – 7 am on 4/9.  This service is held on the upper parking lot area between the church and the schoolhouse. Forecast looks good!  Dress warmly and bring a lawn chair.  We will also bring some folding chairs outside.
  4. Easter morning breakfast is scheduled for 8 am.  Please bring a breakfast casserole and either a pastry or fruit to share.
  5. If you are interested in being baptized (or would just like to learn more about baptism), please let me know by Sunday.
  6. Next Sunday, April 16th, Devon Clemmer will be teaching a class on personal evangelism and apologetics during the Sunday School hour at 9 am. Ever wonder how you can start conversations with others about Jesus?  Join us!
  7. Senior High Youth next meet on Sunday, 4/23 at 6:30 in the evening (please note the time change). This is our last youth group with Devon!

We are concluding our sermon series on Mark this week with a look at Mark’s account of the empty tomb in Mark 16!  We’ll be looking at the “ordinary” folks in Mark’s Gospel who served Jesus during the last week of His life, why Mark included their names, and what that means for us!  It’s going to be a great morning!  Invite someone to join you at the Bridge!
